Bathing beauties then and now May 18 2009
Last weekend Galveston restaged the International Pageant of Pulchritude and Bathing Girl Revue that was held on the island in the 1920s. The pageant later grew into the Miss America contest.
On Saturday male and female contestants dressed in their best period bathing suits and strutted along the beach in the Galveston Island Beach Revue, showing off their vintage swimwear.
Dana Blue (left) twirled her umbrella for judges while showing off her classic leopard print suit. Blue won second place.
