Happy Independence Day weekend July 02 2010
It's that time of year again when we pack up the camper, fill the ice chest with cold drinks and hurriedly throw together an Independence Day post out of material from the archives. But first, a special thanks goes out to all of the service members who are unable to be at home to celebrate with their friends and family. Your service makes our celebration possible.
July 4, 1973.Our first stop is a collection of 4th of July photos compiled from our sister-site Shorpy, where you'll find sparklers, wrestling and hot-air balloons.
And you won't want to miss the 1939 July 4th celebration in Downers Grove, Illinois. This is a classic piece of Americana created by the WPA Federal Art Project in Illinois.
And finally, on behalf of your mother, we'd like to say, "Don't Play With Firecrackers."
That's all we have. The family is waiting in the car and I have to run. Have a happy Independence Day and be safe.
