This illustration by artist Wladyslaw Theodore Benda shows a window opening to a view of the Earth, the Milky Way and the Moon. The image was done in charcoal and originally appeared in the March, 1918, edition of Cosmopolitan along with an article titled 'The Future of the Earth,' by Maurice Maeterlinck. Polish-born Benda lived from 1873 to 1948 and worked primarily as a graphic artist with his illustrations appearing in advertising, books and magazines.
