In 1970 The Blue Flame set the world land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, reaching a speed of 630.388 mph. The record held for 27 years. The Blue Flame was built by Reaction Dynamics, but received technical assistance from The Institute of Gas Technology.
